my sun is a saint.

my sun is distorted.
my sun is more shapely than yours.
mine shines in purples and has
moons that dance around it.
yours is yellow.
and round.
yours shines on a timely schedule.
my sun shines when it wants.
where it wants.
in any color it wants.
it doesn't shine on government buildings.
it doesnt shine on factory farms.
it doesn't shine in dog fighting rings.
until one of them goes down
then it shines an angry red.
my sun is graduated.
my sun is smart.
my sun will not burn you.
but it will burn the man beside you.
the man who sleeps soundly
while his country is at war.
the man who laughs
and buys dinner with a credit card
he got from the oil company.
my sun is graduated.
my sun is smart.
my sun will not burn you.
but it will burn the woman beside you.
the woman who speaks out against choice.
the woman who cares more about fashion
than the animal she skinned alive.
my sun gives the world a new light.
my sun shines in soft hues
for those who are kind.
my sun sees a place gone awry.

my sun yearns for more.
nurturing.
restless.
unafraid.
still.
against the grain.

my sun.
